Kentucky Ag Connection - 08/16/2018

Learn about the rapidly expanding career and business opportunities available to Kentuckians at the second annual Kentucky Registered Apprenticeship Summit Sept. 10-12 at the Kentucky Exposition Center at 937 Phillips Lane in Louisville. Registration for the free event, co-hosted by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet and UPS, is at https://form.jotform.com/81425893507160.

The summit will bring together business, education, government and civic leaders to explore registered apprenticeships, and build on the momentum happening across Kentucky. Participants will hear from national and international experts on starting and managing apprenticeship programs. Kentucky's registered apprenticeship program is at the forefront of this proven workforce model, and rapidly becoming a national model for successful career preparation.

Additionally, the summit will recognize graduates of certified apprenticeship programs from throughout the Commonwealth. To graduate from such programs, individuals complete the required on-the-job training hours and 144 classroom hours per year. Hear testimony from and interact with these dynamic and highly successful graduates.

Job seekers, students and veterans also can register for the free UPS College and Career Expo at the same location on Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to3 p.m., at https://collegeandcareerexpo.com. The career fair will feature more than 100 businesses offering jobs, internships and apprenticeships in sectors such as health care, advanced manufacturing, construction, social services and information technology. In addition, more than 200 universities, colleges and technical schools offering over $500,000 in scholarships will be at the career fair.

Employers also can take advantage of this hiring opportunity at the region's largest education and job fair by reserving a booth at https://collegeandcareerexpo.com/become-an-exhibitor/. High school juniors and seniors from all 120 counties are being actively recruited to attend the career fair as well as veteran groups. It will be the largest recruiting event ever held in Kentucky for traditional colleges, apprenticeships and internships.

The registered apprenticeship model is a flexible, employer-driven approach that provides high-quality job training and produces skilled, competent employees for Kentucky employers. The division is responsible for registering apprenticeship programs that meet federal standards, issuing nationally recognized and portable Certificates of Completion to apprentices, and promoting the development of new programs through marketing and technical assistance.

Currently, there are over 3,000 apprentices in Kentucky in nearly 240 different programs representing 109 different occupations.
