East Kentucky Power Co-op Receives Governor's Award
Kentucky Ag Connection - 09/11/2019

Secretary David A. Dickerson announced East Kentucky Power Cooperative in Winchester has earned the Governor's Safety and Health Award.

"Creating safe and healthy work environments is crucial to the success of our employees and companies," Labor Cabinet Secretary David A. Dickerson said. "I want to commend the East Kentucky Power Cooperative on this incredible achievement."

The award recognizes businesses for outstanding safety and health performance and encourages the development of programs designed to reduce and even eliminate occupational injuries and illnesses.

East Kentucky Power Cooperative is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative providing wholesale electricity to 16 owner-member distribution cooperatives that serve 1.1 million Kentucky residents at 535,000 homes, farms, businesses and industries across 87 counties. EKPC provides power through coal-fueled plants located in Mason and Pulaski counties; natural gas-fueled peaking units in Clark and Oldham counties; renewable energy plants in Barren, Boone, Clark, Laurel, Greenup, Hardin and Pendleton counties; and more than 2,800 miles of transmission lines.

"It is truly an honor to receive this recognition because every EKPC employee contributed by focusing on the safety of themselves and their co-workers. It is even more rewarding to know that, by staying safe, EKPC's employees are preventing pain and suffering, not only for themselves, but for family, friends and co-workers," said Anthony 'Tony' Campbell, EKPC's president and CEO.

The Governor's Safety and Health Award is given to employers and employees, who together have achieved the minimum number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness at their establishment. The number of hours without a lost-time injury or illness is dependent on the amount of employees, and an organization can receive the award again in subsequent years providing there were no recordable injuries or illnesses resulting in lost work days.
