Yang, Other Key Hires Join Kentucky State University

Kentucky State University added a number of new key hires, including a new director of global agriculture programs.

Dr. Eric Yang was named director of international affairs and global agriculture programs. Yang previously served as director of international programs and services at the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College. Yang has also held the titles of director/dean, executive director, cultural consultant and coordinator, associate director, research assistant lecturer and research associate at East Asia Initiatives/Confucius Institute, Confucius Institute at the University of Buffalo, Evergen Biotechnologies, Michigan State University, University of Connecticut and Wuhan University. Yang earned a Ph.D. in educational psychology/gifted and talented education from the University of Connecticut, a master's in sociology from Wuhan University and an associate degree in teaching ESL from Cangzhou Teachers College.

Dr. Pernella Deams was named dean of student leadership, conduct and wellness. Deams previously served department chair/associate professor at Talladega College. Deams also held the titles of department head, project manager, assistant professor, graduate research assistant, pre-doctoral intern, pre-doctoral advance practicum trainee, school-based clinician and counseling intern at Grambling State University, ALERT Community Development Corp., Nashville State Community College, Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, Vanderbilt University Psychological and Counseling Center, Pinebelt Mental Healthcare Resources and Clearview Recovery Center. Deams earned a Ph.D. in psychology from Tennessee State University, a master's in counseling psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a bachelor's in psychology from Southern University and A&M College.

Arlen Sims was named special assistant to the vice president of student engagement and campus life. Sims previously served as area director with Sodexo in the District of Columbia Public Schools. Sims also held the titles of regional growth coordinator and field service manager at Sodexo. Sims earned an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor's in political science from Alcorn State University.

Christina Caul-Jackson was named director of academic support. Caul-Jackson previously served as assistant director of academic success at the University of Kentucky. Caul-Jackson has also held the titles of student success navigator, coordinator for student involvement, Equal Employment Opportunity specialist I, freshman counselor and residence hall coordinator at the Kentucky Community & Technical College System, Marshall University, the West Virginia Department of Transportation and Eastern Kentucky University. Caul-Jackson earned a master's in public administration at Eastern Kentucky University and a bachelor's in sociology from Berea College.

Dr. Micah Glenn was named coordinator of board operations and strategic initiatives. Glenn previously served as a graduate research and teaching assistant at Louisiana State University (LSU). Glenn has also held the titles of assistant director, facilities coordinator and volunteer teaching assistant at LSU and the University of Minnesota. Glenn earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership, research and counseling from LSU, a master's in applied kinesiology from the University of Minnesota -- Twin Cities, and a bachelor's in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University.

Jennifer Williams was named director of the B.R.E.D.S. Office. Williams previously served as interim executive director for admissions and recruitment at Southern University and A&M College. Williams has also held the titles of assistant director of admissions, admissions officer, administrative program specialist, administrative coordinator, clerk chief and communications specialist at LSU and the Louisiana State Police Troop A. Williams earned a master's in human research education at LSU and a bachelor's in addiction studies at Northwestern State University.
