Ribbon Cut at Pikeville's Advanced Technology Center
Kentucky Ag Connection - 09/20/2019

Big Sandy Community & Technical College held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the Hal Rogers Advanced Technology Center on its Pikeville Campus. The new site is the first fiber-to-the-desk structure in Kentucky. The ATC accommodates the new associate degree program in broadband technology -- the first in Kentucky and just the third in the United States.

The Broadband Technology Program is divided into three tracks: Broadband Technician, Broadband Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Broadband Design and Applications. The Fiber Optics training also offers certifications in Fiber Optics Technician, Certified Fiber Optics Specialists in Testing and Maintenance and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Outside Plant Cabling.

BSCTC was honored to have Congressman Rogers present at the event to name the building in honor of his support.

"I'm humbled to have my name associated with a program that will advance the future of technology and education in our region." said Rogers, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "This facility is the culmination of a long-time vision that I've had to offer opportunities that will help is keep our best and brightest students at home. We need their help to transform the future of Eastern Kentucky."

Dr. Sherry Zylka, President/CEO of BSCTC stated, "Plan your work; work your plan" as the Congressman would say. And that is EXACTLY what has happened here. Together we move forward and we plan, and we work. Thank you, Hal Rogers, for all you have done and all you continue to do for your home."
