Organic Association of Kentucky to Host Virtual Field Day
Kentucky Ag Connection - 06/18/2021

Join in for the upcoming farmer field day organized by the Organic Association of Kentucky (OAK).

"Tools for Minimal-Till Market Farming and Diversified Vegetables Virtual Farmer Field Day" will be hosted by Rains and Sun Hilltop Farm, Independence via Zoom on July 9 beginning t 2 p.m. Eastern.

In their eighth year of CSA and farmers market sales from their 13-acre farm, Anna Raines and the crew at Rains and Sun have curated a rich collection of tools critical to their Certified Organic diversified vegetable production. This virtual event will focus on season extension / protected production (high tunnels, caterpillar tunnels, row cover); bed prep (walk-behind tractor and implements, broadfork); seeding and planting (jang and earthway seeders, dibbler for transplanting); weeding and cultivating (landscape fabric, hand tools); irrigation (drip tape, overhead sprinklers); infrastructure (greenhouse, packshed), and consumable products (seeds, amendments, potting media). People will see many of these tools in action, hear Anna's experience with what works and what doesn't in their minimal-till operation, and get an inside glimpse into additional non-production tools that Anna views as essential.

Open to all and free to attend, registration is required at https://www.oak-ky.org/farmer-field-days-2021

For those working in or with UK Extension, please note that this and all OAK virtual field days in 2021 are in KERS for Professional Development credit.
