Kentucky launches AgTech initiative
Kentucky Ag Connection - 11/16/2023

The Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp has initiated a program to encourage agtech and food-based businesses in Kentucky. The goal is to make the state a notable location for such businesses. The City of Lexington, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, the University of Kentucky Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and Alltech are all involved in this initiative.

The program aims to connect agricultural innovators with public and private funding, attracting new agri-food and agri-business companies to Kentucky.

“We believe that Kentucky has the potential to be a leader in agtech and food innovation,” said Bob Helton, director of Bluegrass AgTech Development Corp. “This program will provide the resources and support that these businesses need to succeed.”

The program will offer challenge grants of up to $100,000 to for-profit businesses that are currently in or willing to establish a presence in Lexington or Kentucky. Selected recipients will also be offered mentorship and business development assistance.

“This is a great opportunity for businesses that are developing new technologies to improve agriculture and food production,” said Dr. Nancy Cox, from the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture. “We are excited to see the innovative ideas that this program will generate.”

Applications for the challenge grants are due by March 1, 2024.
