KATS to Host Drone Pilot Certification Training

The Kentucky Agriculture Training School will host a Drone Pilot Certification Workshop June 28-29 at the Derrickson Agricultural Complex in Morehead with an exam June 30 at any Federal Aviation Administration testing center. The course aims to prepare agents, consultants and others to become certified remote pilots with the FAA.

"Drones are an increasingly popular tool in agriculture to help save time and increase production," said Lori Rogers, KATS coordinator. "They are used in mapping, spraying, scouting, crop and livestock monitoring and more.?This is an intense prep course for the Drone Pilot Certification Exam as required by the FAA's Small UAS Rule, part 107, for those who plan to use drones commercially."

Drones have many potential applications in agricultural production systems. Only FAA-certified pilots may legally operate commercial drones.

During the intensive, two-day training, participants will learn the skills they need to receive their certification.

The cost to attend the UK workshop is $400. The exam is an additional $175. To register for the workshop, contact Lori Rogers at lori.rogers@uky.edu or 270-365-7541, ext. 21317. Space is limited.
