Vietnam Opens New Doors for US Agriculture

Vietnam Opens New Doors for US Agriculture

By Jamie Martin

Vietnam is becoming one of the most attractive export markets for U.S. agriculture. Strong economic growth, increasing consumer spending, and expanding food industries are helping drive demand for imported agricultural products.

In 2025, the United States exported approximately $4.7 billion in agricultural products to Vietnam, making it the country’s second-largest agricultural supplier. The nation’s rapidly growing middle class is encouraging demand for premium, safe, and high-quality food products.

Fresh fruit exports continue to show growth potential. U.S. apples, grapes, and cherries remain popular, while expanded access for mandarins, peaches, and nectarines is creating additional opportunities for growers.

Vietnam’s dairy sector is also expanding. Demand for milk powders, cheese, whey products, yogurt, and butter helped increase purchases from U.S. dairy suppliers during 2025.

Poultry products remain an important export category. Imports help meet domestic demand, and recent tariff reductions may improve competitiveness for U.S. products in the Vietnamese market.

Feed ingredients are critical to Vietnam’s livestock and aquaculture sectors. Strong demand for soybeans, corn, soybean meal, and DDGS has increased imports from the United States. New investments in feed processing capacity are expected to support future growth.

Vietnam’s booming textile industry has made it a key destination for U.S. cotton. The country depends heavily on imports to supply its yarn and textile sectors, which continue to expand through export-driven manufacturing.

Additional opportunities are emerging in ethanol, seafood, and forestry products. Higher ethanol blending requirements are increasing fuel demand, while seafood imports support both local consumption and food processing. U.S. forestry products are also benefiting from growth in Vietnam’s furniture and wood manufacturing industries.
