2024 Kentucky fruit and vegetable conference opens registration

By Blake Jackson

Kentucky produce growers have an exciting opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge with the opening of registration for the 2024 Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Conference. Scheduled for January 3-4 at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green, this event is a cornerstone for growers in the region, with pre-conference activities starting January 2.

Rachel Rudolph from the University of Kentucky highlights the careful planning of the conference, which features over 90 speakers covering topics like production techniques, marketing strategies, organic production, and business management. The conference also includes a trade show with over 60 exhibitors.

Key speakers like Cody Adkins from the USDA Risk Management Agency and experts from Purdue University and the University of Tennessee will offer insights at the conference. Special events, such as a farmer’s market short course, farm food safety plan writing workshop, and grower meet-up sessions, will provide additional learning and networking opportunities.

Cindy Finneseth, executive director of the Kentucky Horticulture Council, emphasizes the diversity of educational tracks available, catering to all levels of growers. The conference aims to introduce new techniques and practices to enhance profitability in specialty crop growing.

Early bird registration is $50 until December 15, 2023, after which the cost increases to $75. Registrations can be made online or on-site.

The event is a collaborative effort by multiple organizations, including the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
