Dr. Mark Davidson has been named the new deputy administrator for Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), a position he has been acting in since Osama El Lissy retired in January.
Dr. Davidson brings a wealth of knowledge and management expertise to the position, after serving in leadership roles in multiple programs, including as an Associate Administrator in my office since 2019, where not only did he assist me and his fellow Associate Administrators in carrying out the Agency's day-to-day operations, but he also worked closely with Dr. El Lissy in providing oversight to PPQ issues and programs.
Prior to his time in the Administrator's office, Dr. Davidson served as the deputy administrator for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Business Services. Before that, he spent 19 years with Veterinary Services (VS) in various positions in the field, Fort Collins, Colo., and Riverdale, Md. From November 2013 to February 2018, Dr. Davidson served as VS' associate deputy administrator.
In addition, Dr. Davidson received his D.V.M. and master's degree in veterinary pathology from Auburn University and his bachelor's degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University.
