KENTUCKY WEATHER

Kentucky - brace for brisk winds and chilly rain

Kentucky - brace for brisk winds and chilly rain

By Blake Jackson

Starting Friday, expect blustery winds whipping up to 55 mph, accompanied by one to two inches of rain. If the sun peeks through, watch out for gusts exceeding 60 mph with scattered thunderstorms. Most of the state faces a slight chance of severe weather during this time.

A wind advisory covers all but western Kentucky, where a more serious high wind warning is in effect. The rain might transition to snow overnight, but no significant accumulation is anticipated.

Saturday will see some light snowfall that tapers off throughout the day. Sunday brings a brief respite from the rain and snow, but the cold arrives in full force. Morning wind chills will plummet to -5°F to +5°F.

Monday brings another round of snow showers alongside bone-chilling temperatures, with highs struggling to reach the mid-20s. While the exact snow amounts are still uncertain, some accumulation is possible.

Tuesday and Wednesday keep the cold theme going, with additional snow showers on Tuesday and wind chills dipping below zero, especially in northern Kentucky (think -10°F or colder!).

The bitter cold won't loosen its grip until Thursday, when temperatures finally creep above freezing.

In short, prepare for a wild ride with strong winds, rain, snow, and dangerously cold temperatures. As National Weather Service official John Gordon warns, "If you can stay indoors next week, stay indoors!"
