Tyson Foods has boosted its bacon production capabilities with a new $355 million facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The 400,000-square-foot plant will produce two million pounds of premium Jimmy Dean and Wright Brand bacon weekly, catering to both retail and foodservice demand. This investment underlines Tyson's leadership in the bacon category and its commitment to future growth.
The facility creates nearly 450 new jobs in southcentral Kentucky and represents a significant investment in the local community. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear hailed the opening as a major milestone for the state's economic development, calling it a "new chapter of growth and prosperity."
Tyson strategically chose Bowling Green for its proximity to pork suppliers and efficient transportation options. This ensures operational excellence and end-to-end profitability by utilizing pork bellies from Tyson's own pork segment.
The plant prioritizes both efficiency and employee well-being. High-tech robots handle demanding tasks like moving heavy materials, while driverless forklifts and autonomous vehicles navigate production zones. These advancements reduce workplace strain and enhance productivity.
Tyson partners with Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College to offer relevant technical training, including robotics, further highlighting its commitment to employee development and creating a desirable work environment.
By expanding its bacon production and investing in Kentucky's workforce, Tyson Foods positions itself for continued success in the growing bacon market while contributing to the local economy.
