UK agriculture announces new research hub construction

By Blake Jackson

The University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (UK CAFE) is pleased to announce the upcoming construction of its new Agricultural Research Building. To prepare the designated site, fencing installations will start in mid-June near Farm Road and Veterans Drive.

This essential fencing will delineate the construction zone and ensure safety throughout the project. While minor disruptions are anticipated, the university has implemented a plan to minimize inconvenience.

Farm Road will remain accessible from Nicholasville Road to the Small Gluck Equine Center surface lot. Access to the Large Gluck Equine Center surface lot will be available through the orange lot.

For those typically accessing University Drive via Veterans Drive westbound, note a temporary closure near the construction zone. However, access to the Plant Sciences and Tobacco Research buildings from University Drive will be maintained.

Limited parking will be available at the Good Barn visitor lot and the Kentucky Tobacco Center lot during construction. Impacted employees with intermediate parking permits are encouraged to utilize alternative parking options, including the Gluck Equine Center lots and the orange lot.

A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this momentous occasion is scheduled for Friday, June 14th. Upon completion, the new 263,000-square-foot Agricultural Research Building will serve as UK CAFE's central research hub.

This state-of-the-art facility will house advanced laboratories, rooftop research greenhouses, modern classrooms, and dedicated office spaces for faculty, graduate students, and staff.

The building represents UK CAFE's unwavering commitment to agricultural innovation and its dedication to serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
