Kentucky Equine Adoption Center (KEAC) in Nicholasville offers a haven for retired racehorses and other Kentucky equines in need. As the state's largest all-breed equine rescue, KEAC focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, training, and placing these horses in loving forever homes.
Each horse at KEAC has a unique story. Miss Swift Kitty, a gentle off-track Thoroughbred, is a prime example. After a racing career and raising two foals, Miss Swift Kitty found a new path at KEAC. While a spinal issue prevents her from being ridden, she's become a cherished companion animal waiting for the perfect adoptive home.
With over 50 horses on 72 acres, KEAC houses Thoroughbreds, Saddlebreds, Arabians, and even feral horses. Many have suffered neglect, abuse, or abandonment before arriving at the center. Cashew, for instance, was once unhandled and feral, but thanks to KEAC's care, she's ready for adoption.
The adoption process caters to both experienced horse owners and newcomers. KEAC matches horses with suitable adopters based on their experience and needs.
Additionally, the center offers an eight-week "Stable Foundations" program for those new to horse ownership. This program equips potential adopters with essential skills like horse care, budgeting, feeding, grooming, and lungeing.
By providing these services, KEAC plays a vital role in Kentucky's equine community. They offer a second chance at a happy life for countless horses while connecting them with loving new families.
