2025 Kentucky Weed Control Field Day Set for September 23

By Blake Jackson

The University of Kentucky Center for Crop Diversification (CCD), in collaboration with the Organic Association of Kentucky and Glacial Drift Enterprises, is set to host the 2025 Kentucky Mechanical Weed Control Field Day on Tuesday, September 23.

The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the UK Horticulture Research Farm, located at 4321 Emmert Farm Lane, Lexington, KY 40514.

This hands-on field day is geared toward farmers, agricultural professionals, and students working with specialty crops. Attendees will have the chance to test a variety of weed-control and cultivation equipment ranging from walk-behind models to four-wheel tractor-mounted tools.

They will also learn how to make real-time tool and cultivator adjustments, discover the latest innovations in mechanical weed control for varying production scales, and network with peers, industry experts, and equipment manufacturers.

Registration is now open at $55 per person, which includes lunch. Groups of up to five can register using a credit card, while larger groups or those wishing to pay by check should contact CCD co-director Alexis Sheffield at alexis.sheffield@uky.edu. The registration deadline is September 9, and space is limited.

Sponsored by the USDA Midwest Transition to Organic Program Partnership and Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SSARE), the event will feature demonstrations by top manufacturers like Tilmor, Garford, Treffler, and Earth Tools.

“This field day is an excellent opportunity for growers of all sizes to find practical solutions for weed control while comparing tools side-by-side before investing,” Sheffield said.
