The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) offers physical loss loans to assist producers in repairing or replacing damaged or destroyed property vital to their agricultural operations.
These loans cover losses to essential farm assets such as buildings, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut trees, as well as harvested or stored crops and hay.
Recently, a disaster notification (N1832) has been issued for Kentucky due to flooding that occurred from February 15 to February 17, 2025. Producers in the affected area are eligible to apply for physical loss loans to help recover from the damage caused by this event. In addition to Kentucky, farmers in the contiguous counties of Christian and Todd are also eligible.
The deadline to apply for assistance is February 9, 2026. Producers seeking to learn more about available programs or determine their eligibility can use tools such as the Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool, Disaster Assistance-at-a-Glance fact sheet, and Loan Assistance Tool available on farmers.gov.
To report a loss or ask questions about USDA disaster assistance programs, producers should contact their local USDA Service Center for guidance and support.
These physical loss loans are an important resource to help agricultural producers rebuild and continue their operations following natural disasters like flooding.
