The Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) has expressed concern over the Kentucky State Fair Board’s decision to remove agriculture from its official mission statement, emphasizing the importance of maintaining agriculture as a central focus of the state fair.
In a statement, Kentucky Farm Bureau President Eddie Melton said, “We are deeply concerned by the removal of agriculture from the Kentucky State Fair Board’s mission statement. For more than a century, the Kentucky State Fair Board and its governance have honored the work of Kentucky farmers, supported youth, and helped the public better understand the role agriculture plays in their daily lives.
“Agriculture is not just another attraction. It is the foundation on which many of the premier shows and other exhibitions held at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds are built. Agriculture remains one of Kentucky’s most important industries.
“We urge leaders to ensure that promoting and celebrating Kentucky agriculture remains a defining priority. Kentucky farm families deserve nothing less.”
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside state leaders, commodity groups, youth organizations, and agricultural partners to ensure Kentucky farm families continue to have a strong and visible presence at events and exhibitions held at the Kentucky State Fairgrounds.
