The University of Kentucky Forages Extension, in partnership with the Kentucky Master Grazer Educational Program, will host the Summer Forage Tour on August 11, 2026. at Josett Farm in Springfield, Kentucky.
The event will begin at 3 p.m. EDT and provide cattle producers with practical insights into forage management and grazing practices designed to improve pasture productivity.
"This Summer Forage Tour will highlight how a dairy‑turned‑beef farm is addressing toxic tall fescue with novel endophyte stands, putting native warm-season grasses like Eastern gamma grass and switchgrass into productive use, and rotationally grazing 350 acres with intention,” said Chris Teutsch, Ph.D., Extension forage specialist at the UK Research and Education Center.
“Producers will be able to see these strategies first-hand and ask questions about implementation.”
Hosted by John and Jill Settles, the event will showcase the couple’s farming operation, which has evolved over more than three decades. After transitioning from dairy farming to beef cattle production in 2000, they have focused on improving pasture health and long-term land stewardship.
“Hoping to improve their pastures and the land that supports them, the Settles are consistent and patient in their practices, and this shows on their farm,” Teutsch said. “Come for a visit and see for yourself.”
Admission is $10 per person and will be collected at the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring portable seating. Dinner is included, children may attend free of charge, and advance registration is requested.
