Cameron Courts Farmers as Beshear Stays Away from Farm Bureau Forum

The "Measure the Candidate" forum, a regular feature of gubernatorial campaigns, experienced a notable absence as Democratic Governor Andy Beshear chose not to attend. This allowed Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron to seize the opportunity and discuss his plans for Kentucky's future.

Cameron didn't shy away from emphasizing his commitment to voters and their values. He expressed support for the controversial song "Try That in a Small Town" by Jason Aldean, defending its promotion of small-town values while critics perceive it as promoting gun violence and targeting the Black Lives Matter movement.

Addressing critical issues, Cameron prioritized law enforcement and budget allocation, promising to collaborate closely with the General Assembly to create an effective legislative relationship. He criticized Beshear for lacking such communication.

The candidates differed on crime statistics, with Beshear celebrating reported decreases, while Cameron highlighted discrepancies in the numbers, especially in Jefferson County. Cameron vowed to tackle crime challenges and ensure a safer Kentucky.

Cameron also addressed workforce participation and proposed reforming Medicaid to include work requirements for able-bodied recipients. He aimed to boost workforce engagement and promote a culture of work.

Cameron urged voters to consider the stakes of the upcoming election, emphasizing ideals such as faith, family, and community, which he believes are vital for the state's progress.

Both candidates are scheduled to speak at the Fancy Farm political event on August 5, presenting another opportunity for voters to assess their visions for the commonwealth.
