Equipment Industry Seeks Trade Certainty

By Jamie Martin

The Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) is encouraging policymakers in Canada and the United States to strengthen trade cooperation and create a more predictable business environment for the heavy equipment sector.

The organization has urged government leaders to continue working toward trade solutions that support economic growth while reducing uncertainty caused by tariff-related challenges. AED believes a stable trade framework would benefit businesses operating on both sides of the border.

Representing the full range of the heavy equipment industry, AED includes members involved in agriculture, construction, forestry, mining, transportation, and infrastructure development. These industries rely heavily on equipment, parts, and services that move between Canada and the United States.

The association notes that its members maintain more than 7,200 locations throughout North America and contribute more than $100 billion in annual revenue. Together, these businesses employ over 140,000 workers and play an important role in supporting regional economies.

AED says that open and efficient trade helps equipment dealers better serve customers while giving manufacturers confidence to invest in new products, technology, and business expansion. Industry leaders also believe that removing unnecessary barriers can improve competitiveness and strengthen long-term economic partnerships.

“AED members supply and servicethe equipment needed to feed, fuel and build North America,” said AED President and CEO Brian P. McGuire. “We will continue advocating in both Washington and Ottawa for free and fair trade between both countries that provides the certainty equipment dealers and manufacturers need to invest and grow.”

Since trade tensions emerged, AED has participated in discussions with government representatives in both Canada and the United States. The group continues to promote policies that support fair trade and economic cooperation.
