Fayette's Summer Effort for Green Care

Fayette's Summer Effort for Green Care

Summer in Fayette County looks brighter this year because of the hard work of the Fayette County Conservation Group (FCCD).

Their goal? Planting seeds for a clean and green future.

At the top of their list is the Care and Education Money. This program isn't new, but this year, there's a big change – with a lot of people asking for it.

They give a special nod to new people and projects in less lucky areas, hoping to help the community. For example, Picadome School and Beaumont Church got some of this money for their green projects.

The Home Green Project, another big thing from FCCD, got a lot of people's attention. People signed up so fast that all spots were gone in just two weeks! If you want to know what these green lovers did, wait for the Fall paper from FCCD.

Then, there’s the free dirt checking for people living in Fayette County. Knowing about dirt health is key for keeping land well. Through tickets, folks can learn about their dirt's pH and what it needs, helping them make good choices for farms and gardens.

Talking about farms, FCCD helps farmers too. They give back some money for busy farm areas and there's a new Cover Crop Project coming this fall. Plus, there’s a plan to safely get rid of dead animals, stopping possible sickness.

For school, high school kids helped by the FCCD did well at the state Envirothon contest, getting 5th place. And there's money for older students who care about keeping things green.

We look at bugs. Lexington's First Bug Week and the care for the Monarch Butterfly show the city's promise to these important bugs.

Fayette County is not just where people live – it's a sign of green care and shows what we can do when we work together.
