FFA's new Eastern VP hails from Kentucky

By Blake Jackson

Caroline Groth, a sophomore at the University of Kentucky (UK), was recently appointed Eastern Region Vice President for the National FFA Organization, a position she had aspired to for years. Groth, who is studying agricultural education and agricultural economics at UK’s Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (CAFE), reflects on her journey with a mix of excitement and emotion. Her FFA jacket, a symbol of her achievements, now hangs at the foot of her bed, a reminder of the hard work that led her to this milestone.

Her leadership journey began in high school, where she held several chapter and regional leadership roles. Last year, she served as Kentucky FFA State President, which paved the way for her nomination as a national officer candidate. The interview process, which involved personal interviews and media rounds, tested her abilities and helped her grow as a leader. Groth was selected from over one million FFA members nationwide.

As part of her new role, Groth will take a break from her studies in 2025 to travel both nationally and internationally, leading workshops, delivering speeches, and interacting with FFA members. She is particularly excited about the opportunity to meet people, a passion she discovered during her time as state president. Groth’s approach to leadership involves incorporating the diverse qualities she admires in others, creating a style that allows her to continuously improve.

Groth’s selection as Eastern Region Vice President is a point of pride for both Kentucky and the University of Kentucky, with Groth being the ninth UK student to hold this esteemed position. Stacy Vincent, a UK professor, praises her as a model of humility and leadership, qualities that make her an excellent representative of both the university and the state of Kentucky.

Groth looks forward to the challenges and rewards of the upcoming year, grateful for the support that has helped her reach this stage and eager to lead the next generation of agricultural leaders.
