Temperatures rebounded this period, slowly increasing through the Thanksgiving holiday. In fact, highs on Thursday topped out in the mid to upper 60s.
Some folks even hit 70. Those temperatures dropped closer to normal on Friday and the weekend following a frontal passage. The cooler air was accompanied by a round of rain showers, mainly Saturday night and into Sunday. Overall, the state only averaged 0.38 inches, adding to deficits over the past few months.
In fact, over the past 90 days, a large portion of Western and Central KY is running 6-8+ inches below normal. Roughly 44% of the state remains in a severe drought.
Temperatures for the period averaged 45 degrees across the state which was near normal and 12 degrees warmer than the previous period. High temperatures averaged from 57 in the West to 60 in the East. Departure from normal high temperatures ranged from 2 degrees warmer than normal in the West to 5 degrees warmer than normal in the East. Low temperatures averaged from 31 degrees in the West to 32 degrees in the East. Departure from normal low temperature ranged from 5 degrees cooler than normal in the West to near normal in the East. The extreme high temperature for the period was 72 degrees at LOUISA 1S and the extreme low was 10 degrees at CADIZ 4SW.
Precipitation (liq. equ.) for the period totaled 0.40 inches statewide which was 0.63 inches below normal and 39% of normal. Precipitation totals by climate division, West 0.43 inches, Central 0.43 inches, Bluegrass 0.52 inches and East 0.21 inches, which was 0.76, 0.66, 0.37 and 0.74 inches below normal. By station, precipitation totals ranged from a low of 0.07 inches at WHITESBURG 2NW to a high of 0.84 inches at BURLINGTON 4S.
