Kentucky Counties Invited to Apply for Spay and Neuter Grants

By Blake Jackson

The Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board (KACAB) is accepting grant applications from county and metropolitan governments across Kentucky to support dog and cat spay and neuter programs.

Through this funding opportunity, eligible governments may receive grants of up to $3,000 each. Awards will be distributed on a competitive basis, with funding levels influenced in part by the anticipated cost of animal sterilization procedures.

Applicants are encouraged to secure the most cost-effective services available to maximize the impact of grant funds.

Local governments may also collaborate with nonprofit organizations to expand resources and improve program effectiveness. Information about the grant program, along with application materials, is available at kyspayneuter.com under the “Resources” section.

Completed applications and all required supporting documents must be submitted by email no later than July 15. Materials should be sent to michael.grant@ky.gov. Applications submitted by mail or fax will not be considered.

Funding for the grant program comes from sales of Kentucky’s specialty spay and neuter license plates. Motorists are encouraged to purchase these plates when registering or renewing their vehicles to help support animal population control efforts statewide.

Established by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1998, KACAB advises the Kentucky agriculture commissioner on animal control matters, shelter standards, funding decisions, and training initiatives. For additional information, visit kyspayneuter.com.
