Kentucky Proud, the state’s official agricultural marketing program, will be featured in the Great American Farmers Market on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from August 3 to 8. Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell announced the state’s participation in the weeklong celebration of American agriculture.
This national event will bring together over 50 vendors daily, representing 28 states. The market serves as a tribute to the innovation and determination of farmers, growers, and producers who reflect the core values of America’s agricultural legacy.
“Here in Kentucky, we know agriculture is the true backbone of our heritage and we are proud of it,” Commissioner Shell said. “Having our Kentucky Proud products represented on a national stage will bring much-deserved attention to Kentucky producers and farm families. We are beyond excited to participate in a celebration that highlights agriculture and the strength and grit of our American farmer.”
The Kentucky Proud program, operated by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture for over 20 years, aims to boost awareness and support for Kentucky's agricultural products. It promotes items that are grown, raised, or processed in the state by local producers and farm families.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is hosting the Great American Farmers Market in partnership with America 250, a countdown initiative to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins noted the market will begin August 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, and opening events, and will run through August 8.
“America’s farmers, ranchers, and producers dedicate their lives to feeding their fellow citizens, and the Great American Farmers Market gives us the perfect opportunity to showcase the rich bounty of our agriculture on the National Mall,” said Secretary Rollins.
