The University of Kentucky’s Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will host its 2025 Equine Field Day on Monday, June 23, from 4-8 p.m. EDT at Endeavor Farm in Versailles, Kentucky. Admission is free, and attendees will receive a complimentary meal.
“This event will highlight what real-world farms can accomplish through small improvements in pasture management, including the establishment of novel-endophyte tall fescue,” said Krista Lea, agricultural extension specialist specializing in equine forages and one of the event planners. “There will also be hands-on demonstrations of hay sampling and evaluation.”
Participants will explore how practical strategies have positively impacted operations at Endeavor Farm-strategies that are achievable for everyday horse owners.
Educational sessions will focus on novel endophyte tall fescue, pasture enhancements, and hay assessment. A guided farm tour, led by UK alumni and current Endeavor Farm managers, will be part of the program.
“As UK alumni ourselves, it's a gratifying experience to be able to continue to work with our university, and especially with our former classmate, Krista Lea," said Keith Haag, Endeavor Farm partner and manager. "When we were in school together, I don't think any of us could have envisioned that we'd still be collaborating with each other in this capacity 20 years later.”
“The help that we've received from Krista and her team has been invaluable to our farm. Our pastures are doing better than ever, and we get compliments constantly,” Haag added.
