Makers Mark has reinforced its commitment to Kentucky agriculture by contributing a unique bourbon experience to support the next generation of farmers.
The donation took centre stage at the 8th annual Blue & Gold Gala hosted by the Kentucky FFA Foundation.
Makers Mark’s Private Select Barrel Experience, offered at the live auction, allowed donors to craft their own barrel of bourbon. The package includes a blending session for eight guests at the iconic distillery and the final product bottled with special labels.
“Bourbon is an agricultural product, and we love our local growers, which is why we source 86% of our ingredients to make bourbon from farmers within a 70-mile radius of the distillery,” said Elle Andress, Director of Higher Partnerships at Makers Mark. “By supporting non-profits like the FFA, Makers Mark hopes to provide opportunities and inspire the next generation of farmers for many years to come.”
The donation quickly sparked competitive bidding. The first group to win the experience included Peterson Farms, David Saffer Law Group, and Pat Christie.
Moved by the excitement in the room, Makers Mark offered a second barrel experience. It was claimed by Darrell and Jennifer Billings of Tanner Chrysler, along with Kevin and Gina Buchanan of the Buchanan Estate.
Each group’s bourbon experience was led by Austin “Woody” Hazelwood, a former Kentucky FFA State President and current Sensory & Innovation Specialist at Makers Mark. His presence highlighted how FFA helps young people build careers in agriculture-related industries.
The Kentucky FFA Foundation supports 23,551 student members across 212 chapters. The foundation’s mission is to grow leaders, build communities, and strengthen agriculture in Kentucky.
The generosity at this year’s gala is expected to make a significant impact on student development and agricultural education.
