US beef and pork exports surge in July

By Jamie Martin

US meat exports demonstrated continued strength in July, according to the latest USDA and US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) reports.

Beef exports rose by 7% to 110,419 metric tons, marking the second largest monthly total in 2024, with a corresponding 12% increase in value to $910.9 million. Notably, markets in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, the Middle East, and ASEAN regions have shown a growing appetite for US beef.

Pork exports also saw a significant uptick, especially to Mexico, where July exports set a record. Overall, pork shipments totaled 241,210 metric tons, a 10% increase from the previous year, with export value surging 13% to $710.5 million. Latin America and South Korea were also standout markets, contributing to a robust export landscape.

Despite a dip in volume, US lamb exports in July grew in value by 13%, underscoring a broader trend of increased demand for US meats across various markets. These figures reflect a strong year for meat exports, with pork values nearing $5 billion, up 6% from last year’s record figures.

The positive trajectory of US meat exports is a testament to the quality and growing international demand for US-produced meats.

As the year progresses, the outlook remains optimistic with continued growth anticipated in both established and emerging markets. This robust performance not only supports US farmers but also underscores the country's pivotal role in the global meat trade.
