USDA Offers Recovery Loans for Kentucky Farmers

USDA Offers Recovery Loans for Kentucky Farmers

By Blake Jackson

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) is offering physical loss loans to help Kentucky farmers recover from the severe ice storm that occurred on January 5-6, 2025.

These loans are designed to assist producers in repairing or replacing essential physical property that was damaged or destroyed due to the storm.

Eligible losses include essential farm buildings, real estate fixtures, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut-bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.

These resources are critical to the success of agricultural operations, and financial assistance through the FSA can help affected farmers rebuild and restore their businesses.

Henderson County has been designated as the primary eligible county for this program. Farmers in surrounding counties, including Daviess, McLean, Union, and Webster, may also qualify for assistance under the contiguous county eligibility guidelines.

The application deadline for these physical loss loans is October 21, 2025. Producers seeking assistance can use the Disaster Assistance Discovery Tool and Loan Assistance Tool available at farmers.gov to explore potential loan and disaster aid options.

Farmers who need to file a Notice of Loss or have questions about available programs should contact their local USDA Service Center for guidance on the next steps in the recovery process.
