It’s been a warm start to August, sprinkled with spotty rain showers amid persisting drought conditions.
According to retired meteorologist and climatologist Mark Seeley, crops are taking a hard hit due to the particularly dry summer in Minnesota.
Much of the severe to extreme drought — covering about 34 percent of the landscape — remains in central and southeastern counties. Rainfall totals have varied across the state, ranging from trace amounts to 3.77 inches in St. Peter, Minn.
