The University of Kentucky Master Grazer Education Program will host its Winter Feeding Field Day on Dec. 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST at the UK Research and Education Center in Princeton. The event is designed to help livestock producers better prepare for winter feeding and improve their forage management skills.
Extension forage specialist Chris Teutsch said the field day will provide valuable information for both producers and county agents. Attendees will learn about stockpiling cool-season forages for extended winter grazing, along with practical guidance on hay sampling, testing techniques, and feeding methods that minimize waste while improving nutrient distribution across pastures.
"It’s an excellent opportunity for producers to learn, ask questions and connect with others who share the same goals for simplifying winter nutrition,” Teutsch said.
Lunch will be provided for all participants, thanks to support from the event sponsors, which include the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund, UK Forages Extension, the Kentucky Forage and Grassland Council, and the Kentucky Beef Network.
Although there is no cost to attend, organizers request that participants register in advance to assist with meal planning. Registration is available at https://2025winterworkshop.eventbrite.com/.
Attendees should travel to 300 Extension Farm Road in Princeton, Kentucky, and follow posted signs to the field day site. For more details, contact Katy Trimble at katy.trimble@uky.edu or 270-625-5366.
