Join us on June 10, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM ET at Old Homeplace Farm in Clay County, Kentucky, for an insightful Farmer Field Day. Maggie and Will Bowling, the farm’s dedicated owners, bring generations of experience to their sustainable farming practices. Maggie grew up on an organic vegetable farm in southern Ohio, while Will has been involved in his family’s livestock farm for decades. Together, they have worked since 2014 to build a farm focused on soil health, crop diversity, and a thriving community.
During this event, Maggie will offer a tour of their farm, showcasing their greenhouse, high tunnels, packing shed, and field crops. She will walk attendees through the farm's vegetable production process, including post-harvest systems and packing. Maggie will also discuss how the farm has scaled up, with a small, efficient team of three to four people, and share her thoughts on organic crop certification and her involvement in the Kentucky Farm Share Coalition.
Will will highlight their pastured livestock operation, which includes grass-finished beef, sheep, and goats. He will also explain the integration of silvopasture systems into their rotational grazing practices, which support both livestock and environmental health.
The Field Day is supported by Grow Appalachia, the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund. It promises to provide valuable insights into sustainable farming, community-supported agriculture (CSA), and pastured livestock practices.
Whether you’re an aspiring farmer or simply interested in sustainable agriculture, this event will offer a wealth of knowledge and practical advice. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with experienced farmers and learn more about innovative farming practices.
