The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed Western Kentucky under a flood watch starting Wednesday afternoon through Sunday morning. Forecasts suggest the region could receive significant rainfall over several days, increasing the likelihood of both flash flooding and river flooding.
Officials warn that certain areas may experience up to 12 inches of total rainfall, especially in low-lying or flood-prone locations. This extended period of rain poses a serious flood risk as rivers, creeks, and streams may overflow. The NWS urges residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and be ready to respond if flood conditions develop.
In Hopkinsville, the forecast predicts a 90% chance of rain on Wednesday night, with the possibility of strong storms and wind gusts reaching up to 28 mph. Rain is also expected to continue through the weekend, with daily chances on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The NWS emphasizes the importance of preparing in advance, especially for those living in flood-sensitive regions. As conditions may worsen, staying informed through local weather updates and being ready to act quickly could help prevent harm and ensure safety.
