The Kentucky Agriculture Training School (KATS) will host a hands-on crop scouting clinic on Thursday, May 15, at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton.
Designed for both newcomers and seasoned professionals, the workshop offers practical experience just as the growing season gains momentum.
“This hands-on workshop is ideal for agriculture interns, new ag agents and producers, and it can serve as a refresher for others as the growing season is getting started,” said Lori Rogers, KATS coordinator.
Running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT, the clinic will focus on scouting corn and soybean fields for insect pests and diseases, identifying growth stages of both crops, and recognizing common weed species. Participants will also explore how soil nutrients impact plant development.
The program offers valuable continuing education opportunities. Certified Crop Advisors can earn 6.5 CEUs, while licensed pesticide applicators can receive 5 CEUs for Category 1A and 1 CEU for Category 10.
The event will take place at 1205 Hopkinsville Road in Princeton, Kentucky. Attendees are advised to dress appropriately for outdoor activities. Lunch will be provided during the clinic.
Pre-registration is required by May 13, and the registration fee is $105. To register, visit Eventbrite link or contact Lori Rogers at lori.rogers@uky.edu or 270-365-7541 ext. 21317.
