Celebrating an anniversary is a special occasion, and the anniversary of the Hardin County Farmers’ Market is no different Saturday when it marks its 46th year.
The 46th anniversary party of the market is from 7 a.m. to noon at 200 Peterson Drive in Elizabethtown. The market itself operates during these five hours with a celebration ceremony taking place from 11 to 11:30 a.m. At the celebration ceremony, the day is filled with events and speakers to look forward to including a singing of “My Old Kentucky Home” by North Hardin High School junior Anna Vaughan, comments from a representative from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and a special appearance from Miss Kentucky Hannah Edelen. The ceremony concludes with carrot cake and red velvet cupcakes made with ingredients provided by five of the farms/vendors in attendance.
“We have plenty of eggs to source for the different cupcakes,” Queen said. “What some people may or may not know is for the red velvet cupcakes, beets can be a natural color additive.”
The farms who produced these ingredients are Fallen Maple Farm, Modern Heritage Farm, Peterson Family Farm, Sassafras Farms and Solway Farms. The cupcakes are made by The Gathering Bakery in Radcliff. “Since 1977, we’ve provided food you trust from farmers you know,” Queen said. “It’s a time for fellowship but also a time to really get to know the farmers that are producing the food that so many people have enjoyed through the years.”
Queen said that culture and its fast pace really makes it hard to keep up and stay on top of life.
