Join KSU Annual Conference for underserved farmers

By Blake Jackson

Kentucky State University's 26th Annual Small, Limited-Resource, Minority Farmers Conference is here! This three-day event (November 21-23) focuses on empowering underserved farmers with knowledge and resources.

The theme "Growing Our Farmers & Our Communities" reflects the conference's commitment to both individual and community success.

The conference provides a platform for farmers to connect with experts from the USDA, state agencies, research institutions, and extension programs.

Participants will gain valuable insights into available resources, programs, and opportunities specific to their needs.

Networking opportunities with fellow farmers and tours of KSU's facilities further enrich the experience. Workshops covering diverse topics equip farmers with practical knowledge on production techniques, land stewardship, financial management, emerging trends in agriculture, and more.

Tour options this year offer a glimpse into diverse agricultural sectors:

  • Silver Springs Farm: Explore Kentucky's rich agricultural heritage, from bourbon distilling to thoroughbred racing and vineyards.
  • KSU Facilities Tour: Immerse yourself in the world of agricultural research and education at KSU's research farm, aquaculture center, youth development center, and main campus.
  • Stewart Shirley Beef Cattle Farm: Learn about cow-calf operations firsthand through a tour and interactive Q&A session.

Registration for this valuable conference is only $50! The fee covers most meals, workshops, transportation to your chosen tour, and even the "Third Thursday Thing" event.

Register online through Eventbrite by November 6th, 2024, or contact Lynsey Crumbie (Lynsey.Crumbie@kysu.edu) if you have registration issues.

For general conference inquiries, contact Edwin Chavous at Edwin.Chavous@kysu.edu or (502) 597-6428. Don't miss this opportunity to grow your skills and connect with your agricultural community!
