The USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced a Secretarial natural disaster designation for Kentucky, providing crucial emergency loans to farmers impacted by drought.
This designation allows FSA to offer emergency credit to help producers recover from losses caused by the disaster.
The loans can be used for a variety of recovery needs, including replacing essential items such as equipment and livestock, reorganising farming operations, or refinancing certain debts.
Each loan application will be reviewed based on the severity of losses, available security, and the producer's ability to repay.
The drought has impacted several counties in Kentucky, with the primary counties eligible for assistance including Anderson, Bath, Boone, Boyle, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Clark, Fayette, Fleming, Franklin, Gallatin, Grant, Harrison, Henry, Jessamine, Kenton, Mason, Menifee, Mercer, Montgomery, Oldham, Owen, Pendleton, Powell, Robertson, Scott, Trimble, Washington, and Woodford.
Additionally, contiguous counties such as Bourbon, Casey, Estill, Garrard, Jefferson, Lee, Lewis, Lincoln, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Nelson, Nicholas, Rowan, Shelby, Spencer, and Wolfe are also eligible for assistance.
Farmers in these areas are encouraged to apply for emergency loans before the deadline of June 30, 2025. For further information and application details, producers can reach out to their local FSA office.
