Join the fall crop protection webinar series

The University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture is offering the 2024 Fall Crop Protection Webinar Series, focusing on integrated pest management (IPM) solutions for field crops.

This program is ideal for agricultural professionals like extension agents, crop consultants, and farmers.

“The webinars are ideal for a range of participants, including agriculture and natural resource county extension agents, crop consultants, farmers and industry professionals,” said Kiersten Wise, extension plant pathologist. “Attendees from both within Kentucky and across state lines are welcome. The program is design to tackle a pest management challenges nationwide.”

Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs) can earn four CEUs in IPM for completing the entire series. Kentucky pesticide applicators attending all four webinars can also earn four CEUs in Category 1a (Agricultural Plant).

The program features presentations by UK specialists on managing crucial crop pests and diseases:

  • October 15: Dealing with Stink Bugs and Other Insect Pests in 2023-24 (Speaker: Raul Villanueva) - This session explores strategies for managing stink bugs and other significant insect threats.
  • October 29: Maximizing Disease Control and Return on Investment for Corn Fungicides (Speaker: Kiersten Wise) - This session focuses on helping farmers make informed decisions about fungicide applications for corn.
  • November 12: Spray Application Parameters: The Offensive Line of Herbicide Applications (Speaker: Travis Legleiter) - This session covers techniques for improving herbicide application accuracy and effectiveness.
  • November 26: Management of Important Wheat Diseases in Kentucky (Speaker: Carl Bradley) - This session addresses current and emerging wheat diseases, offering management recommendations.

Attendees will gain valuable knowledge from experienced specialists on managing pest and disease threats specific to Kentucky and surrounding areas.

These webinars will equip participants with the tactical pest control strategies needed to improve crop health and long-term productivity.
