The University of Kentucky's Wheat Science Group invites wheat growers, industry professionals, and crop advisors to its Winter Wheat Meeting on February 4th.
Experts from the University of Kentucky will cover various topics relevant to the wheat industry. Presentations will address:
- Herbicide timing for ryegrass control (Travis Legleiter)
- Management of Fusarium Head Blight and wheat Deoxynivalenol (DON) levels (Carl Bradley)
- Effects of nitrogen and sulfur on yield and protein content (Edwin Ritchey)
There will also be updates on Kentucky's wheat crop (Chad Lee), Italian ryegrass management and wheat variety tolerance to metribuzin (Samuel Revolinski), and learnings from the Kentucky Wheat Yield Contest (Mohammad Shamim).
Phil Needham will discuss findings from the Yield Enhancement Network, and Josh Wilhelm will share options for managing on-farm grain fumigation.
"We are happy to see so many Kentucky farmers, crop scouts, crop advisors and county agents coming to the table," said Lee, Grain and Forage Center of Excellence director. "This meeting is an opportunity for growers and advisers to connect, learn and gain actionable insights. It’s always rewarding to see the level of engagement and the exchange of ideas that happen here."
The meeting offers continuing education credits for Certified Crop Advisors and pesticide applicators. Lunch will be provided by the Kentucky Small Grain Growers Association, allowing attendees to network.
The event takes place February 4th from 9 am to 3 pm CST at the James E. Bruce Convention Center in Hopkinsville. Registration starts at 8:30 am.
