A local 4-H dairy club is welcoming new members who share an interest in owning, caring for, or showing dairy cattle. The club brings together 4-H’ers, parents, and volunteers to help youth gain hands-on experience and essential knowledge about the dairy industry. Through educational meetings and activities, participants learn what it takes to raise and show healthy dairy animals, even if they do not currently own one.
Members are introduced to a variety of topics, including dairy cow breeds, proper husbandry practices, and the production of dairy products. The club also focuses on helping young people understand the broader dairy industry and its importance to agriculture and the community.
In addition to regular meetings, the club offers field trips and special activities that promote learning outside the classroom. Members can also choose to participate in dairy judging contests and dairy jeopardy competitions, allowing them to test and showcase what they have learned in a fun, engaging way.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Shelby County Extension Office, located at 1117 Frankfort Road in Shelbyville, Kentucky.
