The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved $700,317 in funding during its monthly meeting to support agricultural diversification and rural development efforts throughout the Commonwealth.
“Diversity in our agricultural landscape spells success for our farm producers,” Commissioner of Agriculture and Board Chair Jonathan Shell said. “The projects awarded today by the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board increase the economic value farming has for our farm families and our Commonwealth.”
Among the state and county-funded projects, Commonwealth Veterinary Clinic, PLLC received approval for up to $20,833 in state funds and $4,167 from Scott County through the Large & Food Animal Veterinary Incentives Program. The funding will help purchase a mobile X-ray unit to improve on-farm diagnostics for large animals. Additional details are available from Dr. Abbey Biddle Clifford at abbeybiddle.dvm@gmail.com.
West Liberty Veterinary Clinic Operations LLC. was awarded up to $83,333 in state funds and $16,667 in multi-county funds to construct new cattle working facility. For more information, contact Dr. Laura Howard at westlibertyvet@gmail.com.
The Metcalfe County 4-H Council, Incorporated secured $2,351 in county funds to purchase 45 hams for local 4-H members. Questions may be directed to Marla Young at marla.young@uky.edu.
Through the On-Farm Energy Efficiency Incentives Program, $10,966 was approved for projects in Bath County ($6,300) and Wayne County ($4,666) to help farm families improve energy efficiency.
The board also approved six County Agricultural Incentives Program (CAIP) allocations totaling $522,000 across Fayette, Green, Jessamine, Kenton, Owen, and Rowan counties.
Additionally, $20,000 was designated for the Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program in Hardin and Russell counties, and $20,000 was approved for a Youth Agricultural Incentives Program project in Fayette County.
Local officials will announce CAIP and YAIP application periods and deadlines.
