Kentucky Crop Scouting Clinic Set for May 28 in Princeton

By Blake Jackson

The Kentucky Agriculture Training School (KATS), a program within the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension at the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, will host a hands-on crop scouting clinic on May 28 at the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton.

The event is designed for participants of varying experience levels, including producers, crop scouts, agriculture interns, and new extension agents. According to KATS coordinator Lori Rogers, the training also serves as a useful refresher for those preparing for the growing season.

“This hands-on workshop is ideal for agriculture interns, new ag agents and producers, and it can serve as a refresher for others as the growing season is getting started,” Rogers said.

Running from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT, the clinic will focus on identifying corn and soybean growth stages, scouting for insects and diseases, and recognizing common weeds. Participants will also explore soil nutrients and how they impact crop development.

The program offers continuing education credits, including 6.5 CEUs for Certified Crop Advisors and pesticide credits for Categories 1A and 10.

The clinic will take place at 300 Extension Farm Road, and attendees are advised to dress for field conditions. Lunch will be provided. Registration costs $105 and must be completed by May 25.
