Magney Legacy Ridge Farm in Princeton, Kentucky, will host an on-farm Field Day on May 5, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. Central Time, offering a hands-on learning experience focused on produce safety and sustainable farming practices.
The family-operated farm, owned by Angela and Ray Magney, has been supplying organically grown produce since 2012 and serves 11 counties across western Kentucky through an online farmers market and community-supported agriculture (CSA) program.
In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, the farm collaborates with regional partners to provide eggs, meats, and specialty items, making food safety a top priority in its operations.
Held in partnership with the Kentucky Horticulture Council (KHC), the event will showcase practical approaches to maintaining produce safety on small farms.
Key topics include agricultural water testing, risk assessment, sanitation, hygiene practices, and recent updates to food safety regulations impacting local growers.
Attendees will gain insight into the farm’s post-harvest handling systems, including its upgraded packshed and walk-in cooler, as well as the implementation of a comprehensive farm food safety plan.
Dakota Moore from KHC will discuss efficient packshed design, demonstrate affordable and portable handwashing stations, and highlight funding opportunities and technical resources available to Kentucky farmers for improving water management and food safety.
Participants will also tour the farm’s production areas, including high tunnels, greenhouse facilities, and crop beds, while learning how CSA programs and farmer collaborations can expand market access.
The event provides a valuable opportunity for networking, knowledge sharing, and strengthening connections within the regional farming community.
