Kentucky State University Establishes New Research Farm For Sustainable Crop Development

Kentucky State University (KSU) has announced the establishment of a new research farm aimed at developing sustainable and economically viable crop production methods. The 176-acre farm, located in Franklin County, will provide researchers and students with an opportunity to explore and develop new methods of crop production that are both environmentally-friendly and economically sustainable.

The research farm will include a variety of crops, including soybeans, corn, and hemp, as well as a range of fruits and vegetables. KSU researchers plan to use the farm to study methods of crop rotation, cover cropping, and integrated pest management, among other sustainable farming practices. The goal is to find ways to reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, while also increasing yields and improving soil health.

The research farm will also serve as a training ground for students in KSU's College of Agriculture, Food Science, and Sustainable Systems. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside researchers and gain hands-on experience in sustainable crop production.

According to KSU officials, the new research farm represents a significant investment in the future of sustainable agriculture in Kentucky and beyond. The research conducted at the farm is expected to lead to the development of new technologies and practices that can be used by farmers throughout the region to improve their crop yields and profitability, while also reducing their environmental impact.
