MSU Celebrates 100 Years of Agriculture with Eddie Melton

By Blake Jackson

In honor of 100 years of Agriculture at Murray State University, the Murray State University Alumni Association (MSUAA) has announced that Eddie Melton, a 1980 graduate, Kentucky Farm Bureau president, and Webster County farmer, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Homecoming Parade.

The celebration will take place from October 30 to November 1, with the parade set for November 1 at 9:30 a.m. along Main Street.

A lifelong resident of Sebree, Kentucky, Melton was recently re-elected as president of the Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) for a second term after serving on its executive committee for 16 years. A prominent figure in Kentucky agriculture, he manages a diversified farm in Webster County, producing corn, soybeans, and beef cattle.

Melton’s leadership extends beyond his farm. Melton is a former president of the Webster County Farm Bureau, past chair of the KFB State Resolutions Committee, and past president of the Kentucky Center for Agriculture & Rural Development’s Board of Directors.

Melton also serves on the boards of Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company and the American Farm Bureau Federation.

“During my tenure at Murray State, professors like Dr. Bill Payne and others taught us to take ownership of the decisions that we make,” Melton said. “So many professors over the years had an impact, not only on me, but all of the students I knew.”

Melton also met his wife, Regina, `81, during his college years. “I went grocery shopping with a friend at Jim Adams IGA,” he recalled. “One of my friends knew Regina and the rest is history.”
