Elmwood Stock Farm will host an OAK Farmer Field Day on June 1, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, offering farmers an in-depth look at regenerative livestock farming practices.
The event will focus on integrating poultry and sheep production to improve pasture health, increase efficiency, and create sustainable protein production on small acreages.
Mac Stone of Elmwood Stock Farm will share insights gained from years of raising hair sheep, broiler chickens, laying hens, broad-breasted turkeys, and Narragansett heritage turkeys across 25 acres. By combining species, the farm creates a natural cycle where sheep maintain pasture growth while poultry help fertilize the land, improving overall soil and forage quality.
The field day will also highlight modern tools that have transformed livestock management, including temporary fencing and advanced watering systems that allow farmers to manage animals more efficiently and humanely.
Topics covered during the program include grazing management, parasite control, feeding systems, fencing, labor management, and marketing strategies such as pricing, food safety, and seasonal sales. Participants are encouraged to bring farm maps or field layouts for discussion and practical planning advice.
