The USDA's 2024 Crop Production Annual Summary outlines significant changes in U.S. agriculture. Corn production declined 3% from 2023, totalling 14.9 billion bushels.
Despite the decrease, a record yield of 179.3 bushels per acre was achieved, surpassing the 2023 yield by 2.0 bushels. Harvested corn area dropped by 4% to 82.9 million acres.
Soybean production rose 5% to 4.37 billion bushels. The average yield reached 50.7 bushels per acre, slightly higher than 2023 levels but 1.0 bushel below earlier forecasts.
Cotton production grew by 19%, reaching 14.4 million 480-pound bales. However, the yield decreased to 836 pounds per acre. The harvested area expanded significantly, up 28% to 8.27 million acres.
The Winter Wheat and Canola Seedings report estimates 34.1 million acres planted for harvest in 2025, reflecting a 2% increase from 2024.
Grain stocks data showed corn stocks declining 1% to 12.1 billion bushels, while soybean stocks increased by 3% to 3.10 billion bushels. Wheat stocks experienced a 10% rise, totalling 1.57 billion bushels as of December 1, 2024.
