Get certified to apply restricted use pesticides in Kentucky

By Blake Jackson

The Casey County Extension Office Educational Building will be hosting pesticide applicator certification sessions in Liberty, Kentucky, in January 2025.

The events are designed to assist agricultural producers in gaining certification to apply Restricted Use pesticides, which are crucial for ensuring safe and effective pest control in farming operations.

These sessions will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 1517 S. Wallace Wilkinson Blvd, Liberty, KY 42539.

Certified private pesticide applicators are authorized to use Restricted Use pesticides to produce agricultural commodities on their own property, property they rent, or lands owned by a farmer-neighbor.

This certification also allows applicators to apply pesticides without receiving compensation, other than the exchange of personal services between producers.

Additionally, certified applicators can train workers to meet Worker Protection Standards, helping to ensure safety and compliance on farms.

For more information or to register for these certification sessions, please contact Kelsey Marcum at 606-787-7384 or via email at kelsey.woodrum@uky.edu.

These sessions are a valuable opportunity for agricultural professionals to ensure their compliance with pesticide use regulations while safeguarding farm productivity.
