Major Dairy Show Underway in Casey County

Major Dairy Show Underway in Casey County

Visitors from Kentucky and surrounding states are gathering in Liberty for Kentucky’s third largest dairy show.

Casey County Fair Chairman Greg Goode says the show used to be part of the fair but will be a month before because it has become such a big undertaking.

“We are the largest county fair dairy show in the state,” he said. “Only the North American International Livestock Exhibition in November and the state fair in August are bigger than ours.”

Both of those events are held at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville.

Goode expects this year’s show to bring in approximately 75 youngsters who will accompany more than 275 head of cattle into the show ring.

“They come from all over Kentucky and last year we had some exhibitors from Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee,” he said. “A lot of them come up to the state fair and we go to know them there and we’ve all become good friends.”

The local Central Kentucky Ag/Expo Center in Liberty is also a reason for show’s success.

“We’ve got excellent facilities out there,” Goode said. “We’ve got the big building, the area, and the big fans in there to keep everyone cool, even in the first week of July. People like that and they like the accommodations we have with the RV hook-ups. Everything is so convenient.”
