USDA Approves D SNAP For Kentucky Disaster

USDA Approves D SNAP For Kentucky Disaster

By Blake Jackson

Residents in six Kentucky counties impacted by severe storms and a deadly EF-4 tornado on May 16, 2025, are now eligible for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP).

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service approved this emergency support to provide short-term food aid to affected families. The eligible counties include Caldwell, Laurel, Pulaski, Russell, Trigg, and Union.

D-SNAP is a temporary program designed to support individuals and families in areas that receive a federal disaster declaration, which must include individual assistance. This approval follows the major disaster declaration issued on May 24, 2025, by the federal government in response to the devastating tornado and severe weather across southeastern Kentucky.

“Team Kentucky is grateful for this emergency funding to help feed Kentuckians who have been devastated by this historic storm,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “We’ve been through a lot already this year, and it’s important we continue to lift each other up and work together to provide every resource possible to recover and rebuild.”

In addition to new applicants, current SNAP recipients may also apply for replacement benefits if they experienced losses due to power outages or other storm-related damage.

Eligible residents can apply for benefits by calling 1-855-306-8959 or by visiting any Disaster Recovery Center in the designated counties.

This support aims to provide immediate relief and help families begin their recovery journey after enduring such a significant natural disaster. It is one of several steps being taken to ensure no Kentuckian goes without food during this critical time.
